Clean WhatsApp Facebook BB NDA 6.20.2016.doc
Thank you for following up. We have reviewed the patents you cited in your March 25 letter and do not believe we
require a license. However, we would be willing to meet with you in‐person to discuss after entering into an appropriate
NDA. To that end, I have attached an NDA for your review.
We also direct your attention to Facebook patent nos. US 9,203,879; US 9,177,299; US 9,041,737; US 8,468,254 and US
7,624,172. These patents are relevant to a wide range of Blackberry products and features, including touchscreen‐
enabled Blackberry devices, WiFi‐enabled Blackberry cellular devices, operating system features such as notification
services, including lock screen notifications, and/or server‐based notifications and alerts.
In addition, we note that BlackBerry has recently been seeking to have business discussions with WhatsApp. However,
WhatsApp is not willing to discuss business matters with BlackBerry while under threat of litigation. Please inform your
business team, including Mark Wilson, who recently contacted Jan Koum.
