RELATED CASE ORDER 16 17 Examination of the above-stated case numbers reveals that the cases are related 18 within the meaning of Local Rule 123(a). Here, the “actions involve similar questions of fact and 19 the same question of law and their assignment to the same Judge or Magistrate Judge is likely to 20 effect a substantial savings of judicial effort.” Local Rule 123(a)(3). Accordingly, the 21 assignment of these matters to the same judge is likely to effect a substantial savings of judicial 22 effort and is likely to be convenient for the parties. 23 The parties should be aware that relating cases under Rule 123 causes the actions 24 to be assigned to the same judge – it does not consolidate the actions. Under Rule 123, related 25 cases are generally assigned to the judge and magistrate judge to whom the first filed action was 26 assigned. 27 28 1 1 As a result, it is hereby ORDERED that the following cases, Ben v. Eli Lilly & Co., 2 2:14-cv-02914-MCE-AC, and Wolff v. Eli Lilly & Co., 2:14-cv-03004-WBS-EFB, are reassigned 3 to the undersigned and to Magistrate Judge Edmund F. Brennan. Henceforth, the case numbers 4 on documents filed in the reassigned cases shall be shown as: 2:14-cv-02914-KJM-EFB and 2:14- 5 cv-03004-KJM-EFB. 6 7 8 9 It is further ORDERED that the Clerk of the Court make appropriate adjustment in the assignment of civil cases to compensate for this reassignment.
