United States District Court Northern District of California 11 12 13 On April 4, 2016, Plaintiffs Maria Ahmed and Yassar Ahmed, successors-in-interest to 14 Afroza Chowdhury’s estate, brought an action alleging violations of 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and 15 California law. Dkt. No. 1. On July 1, 2016, the Court dismissed Plaintiffs’ complaint in its 16 entirety with leave to amend. Dkt. No. 29. Plaintiffs timely filed a first amended complaint, 17 which eliminates all claims arising under 42 U.S.C. § 1983 and limits Plaintiffs’ allegations to 18 violations of California law. 19 The Court hereby ORDERS the parties to show cause why federal jurisdiction exists in 20 light of the first amended complaint. The parties shall file concurrent briefs of no more than 5 21 pages citing authority that establishes (or negates) the basis for jurisdiction in this Court by August 22 3, 2016. 23 24 25 26 27 28 IT IS SO ORDERED.
