Durham Mayor William V. "Bill" Bell has been sworn in as a member of the Board of Directors of the North Carolina League of Municipalities (NCLM), a voluntary, nonpartisan association of more than 530 cities, towns and villages in North Carolina. He was appointed by the board's executive committee to fill a vacancy on the board and was sworn in at the board's February 10 meeting in Asheville. Mayor Bell represents the N.C. Metropolitan Coalition, a NCLM affiliate organization of the state's largest municipalities, on the board. He will serve one year and is eligible for re-election. The NCLM advocates for cities and towns at the state and federal levels and provides a variety of direct services, including legal, management and employee relations assistance, research and reports, publications and three self-funded risk pools offering insurance coverage for municipal governments and their employees. The NCLM Board of Directors oversees NCLM activities, recommends legislative goals for adoption by the membership, and adopts policies between annual membership meetings.
