Attachment B Group Asks For Criminal Charges Against Counties Tuesday, July 15, 2008 6:49 AM COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Members of a voter activist group are asking a federal judge to begin criminal contempt proceedings against counties they say illegally destroyed ballots from the 2004 election. Eight members of the Ohio Election Justice Campaign say that neither Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner nor the Ohio attorney general's office have adequately investigated whether some county boards destroyed 2004 ballots before they were allowed to. They filed a motion July 10th asking U.S. District Court Judge Algenon Marbley to initiate a grand jury proceeding to find county boards in criminal contempt. Paddy Shaffer, one of the plaintiffs, says the goal is to get certain board members removed. Ohio attorney general spokesman Ted Hart says the agency believes Brunner has done everything asked of her. ©2008 by The Associated Press. All rights reserved.
