EXHIBIT "A" 4' JAMESON HOSPITAL MATERNITY CARE CENTER SUBJECT: To identify newborns at risk for drug withdrawal Policy: All obstetrical patients admitted to the maternity care center will have a urine drug screen (UDS) done. This testing is performed in order to identify those newborns with potential to demonstrate symptoms of drug withdrawal and to require special observation and treatment. Any newborn of a mother with a positive urine drug screen will have a Finnegan’s scoring initiated (see attached). Procedure: 1. The nurse or the unit secretary will order a urine drug screen (UDS) in the Invision system STAT. 2. The nurse will collect the urine specimen, label it and send it to the lab. 3. If the UDS is positive the lab will send the specimen for confirmatory testing. The nurse will log the positive test in the Test Log Book. Jameson Hospital Drug social service department will be notified of the positive UDS. The lab will notify the maternity care center when they receive the results of the confirmatory tests. This information will be recorded in the Testing Log Bookby the Drug maternity staff. 4. If the confirmatory is positive, the MCC staff will notify Jameson Hospital social service department. Social service will then notify Children and Youth Services of the positiveconfirmatory test results. 5. Social service will notify CYS prior to the receipt of the confirmatory result if the following is present: 1. Prenatal history indicating prior drug use or children in foster care. 2. Positive urine drug screen at any time in the pregnancy. 3. Physician suspect ie signs and symptoms upon admission, known methadone patient. 4. Unusual patient behavior 5. Noncompliant prenatal care. 6. Any positive drug screen of the 013 patient will be communicated to the OB and Pediatric physicians. scoring assessment will be initiated on the infant based on the 7.
