A Note on Accreditation
The Lincoln Memorial University-Duncan School of Law (DSOL) has relationships with three accrediting bodies—the
Tennessee Board of Law Examiners (TBLE), the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), and the
American Bar Association (ABA). As to the first, on February 24, 2009, the TBLE approved the DSOL’s Doctor of
Jurisprudence program. This approval makes DSOL’s graduates eligible to apply to take the Tennessee Bar
Examination. As to the second, on April 27, 2009, Lincoln Memorial University received approval from SACS to offer a
Doctor of Jurisprudence degree program at the Old City Hall Building in Knoxville, Tennessee. This approval makes
DSOL students eligible for federal financial aid. Finally, as to the third, DSOL has applied for provisional accrediation
with the ABA. In that regard:
The Dean is fully informed as to the Standards and Rules of Procedure for the Approval
of Law Schools by the American Bar Association. The Administration and the Dean are
determined to devote all necessary resources and in other respects to take all necessary
steps to present a program of legal education that will qualify for approval by the
American Bar Association. The Law School makes no representation to any applicant
that it will be approved by the American Bar Association prior to the graduation of any
matriculating student.
If you have any questions regarding the accrediation status of DSOL or its potential status with the
ABA, please contact Vice President and Dean Sydney Beckman.
