Dear Charles Carreo n,
Yo u're making things wo rse.
This dispute was o riginally between myself and FunnyJunk. After the fundraiser was a success, I figured yo u and FunnyJunk wo uld sto p there. This wo uld have
been an ideal exit fo r yo u. It wo uldn't have been a particularly graceful exit, but an exit no netheless.
So when did this transfo rm fro m Oatmeal VS FunnyJunk to Carreo n VS the internet? I'm go ing to take a wild sho t in the dark here and guess that it's when yo u
anno unced to a jo urnalist at MSNBC that yo u were trying to shut do wn a charity fundraiser which wo uld benefit cancer victims and endangered wildlife. THAT was
the mo ment when the tide o f public o pinio n fo cused o n yo u instead o f FunnyJunk. I never enco uraged anyo ne to attack, harass, o r o therwise co ntact yo u. In fact in
my o riginal letter I blurred o ut yo ur co ntact info rmatio n and I linked to yo ur Wikipedia page instead o f yo ur website. If I've directed energy anywhere it's been to the
fundraiser page.
And to anyo ne else who is reading this: it go es witho ut saying, but st o p harassing Carre o n. Be lawful and civil in yo ur interactio ns with him.
If yo u want to help, go do nate.
Yo u're upset, I get it. My o riginal respo nse to the FunnyJunk letter was pro bably humiliating, and fo llo wing yo ur co mments, I gather that yo u allegedly received a
slew o f nasty emails and pho ne calls. Peo ple who are upset o ften say and do very stupid things, and perhaps that's why yo u to ld the jo urnalist at MSNBC yo u were
attempting to shut do wn my fundraiser. Perhaps that's why last night yo u went ahead and filed a lawsuit against myself, the Natio nal Wildlife Federatio n, and the
American Cancer So ciety.
Yo ur lawsuit is meritless and it'll pro bably just get dismissed, but I'm guessing yo u're just go ing to keep trying until yo u find an angle that sticks with a judge. My
advice: take a few weeks o ff, sto p saying crazy shit to jo urnalists, and co me back when yo u've calmed do wn. Write an apo lo gy to who mever yo u feel is
appro priate, o r just do n't write anything ever again.
Maybe start yo ur o wn charity fundraiser as way o f apo lo gy. I'd do nate.
